4:30 p.m. Support LGBTQIA+ at Oconee Public Library OFF-SITE

The UUFA Social Action Committee (SAC) urges all to show support for Oconee Public Library, which has been under attack for its LGBTQIA+ display in the children’s section and hosting a Born to Stand Out Storytime featuring a book about RuPaul.

Please attend the library Advisory Board meeting, Monday, July 10, at 4:30 pm, held at the Oconee County LibraryThe general message we want to express is “LGBTQ+ inclusive books, displays, and events belong at our local libraries.”

Address: 1080 Experiment Station Rd. Watkinsville GA 30677.

If you are a resident and taxpayer of Oconee County, please sign up to speak. Call (706) 769-3950 to request. Please be aware that the auditorium is fairly small and will be standing room only. If you are in Athens or another county, please attend and hold signs and stand outside along the sidewalk to show support.

Be aware that there will likely be anti-LGBTQIA+ protesters, too. Watkinsville City Police are supposed to be in attendance to keep the peace. Parking will be very limited. Consider carpooling, the Harris Shoals Park might be a good meetup spot to park and drive a group of people over.  (Address: Harris Shoals Dr, Watkinsville, GA 30677.)

For further information, contact Steve Lize (lize.steve@gmail.com or 706.510-6980.

Please respond to this message to say if you are planning to attend and speak (as an Oconee taxpayer) or stand outside in solidarity (as a supporter of Clarke or another county).

The event is finished.
