The Board took the recent sermon topic of “Deeds Before Creeds” to heart. This new member of the Board is so gratified by how this Board focuses on creating a Beloved Community for all its members, friends, and the larger Athens community.
For transparency:
- the Board created an explicit charge to the Executive Committee making clear its responsibilities as well as membership.
- the Board approved an updated Board Covenant for 2022-2023
For safety as well as efficiency:
- the Board voted to accept the Audio-Visual Coordinator job description to be taken to the Finance Committee that will consider the budgetary impact to make a proposal to go to the Executive Committee.
For our fellowship as well as the Athens community:
- The Board discussed the revised rules for this congregation regarding Covid-19 which have been publicized on our website and Sunday announcements. The Board commended the committee for diligently keeping this congregation free for over 2 years from being a spreader of the virus.
- The Board heard a progress report on our upcoming community “Ready Set Vote!” event coming up on Sept. 20.
Caring for our members in need:
- The Board heard of the emotional hardships on our children around Miss Kelly’s death, and is committed to listening and hearing our young members. As a first step the Board will discuss this as the “Big Picture” segment of our October meeting.
Stay Tuned!!!
- Details are still being firmed up for our congregational retreat Nov. 11-12. The skeleton agenda calls for a zoom leadership meeting Friday evening with UUA Southern Region consultants, the fall Choir Retreat Saturday morning, and a Congregational Retreat from 1-5 Saturday afternoon.
