Over the past twelve months the 60th Anniversary Committee has strived to take our Fellowship on a journey to seek the answers to these questions. We have brought forth highlights of where UUFA has come from; who are the people who make up our membership, our friends, our ministry, and our leadership; and what we have done and are doing to serve not only our congregation but also to serve, support, and improve the wider community.
Now the time has come for us to look at where we are going, to “Dream the Bigger Dream.” In December we are seeking input from the staff, Lay Ministers, Board of Trustees, committee and team leaders, and congregation to look at where we can envision UUFA being in 10 years, 15 years, 25 years, and beyond. Will we still be on Timothy Road or located in downtown Athens, or will we have congregations in both areas? What struggles will our Social Action Committee of the future face? How big will our campus ministry be? What will our RE program be like? How will our music program have grown?
We will try to identify not only where we could be but also how we get there, what we are doing now that is moving us in that direction, what obstacles might keep us from achieving that vision, and what we can do in preparation for overcoming those obstacles. There are no right or wrong answers to these questions; the future is limited only by our ability to dream it and our desire to chase that dream. We look forward to engaging everyone in this final stage of our 60th Anniversary celebration, to seeing how big we can dream, and to helping UUFA lay the groundwork for achieving our dreams. You can let us know your thoughts here and watch for a collection of your suggestions added to this post in the month ahead.
