2017 Theme – “Looking Back to Move Forward — Continuing the Legacy.”
The challenging academic competition, open to youth in grades 5 to 12, is designed to stimulate an awareness of and appreciation for African-American history and culture. The Bowl also promotes academic rigor and teamwork. During the contest, teams will display black history knowledge in various categories, including economics, civil rights, education, science, and entertainment.
The Bowl is sponsored by the all-volunteer Athens Area Black History Committee. The Economic Justice Coalition, a local 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is the event’s fiscal agent. Contributions are tax deductible.
