Writing in his history of UUFA, Horace Montgomery quoted a leading faculty member who characterized the Fellowship’s mid 20th century Sunday meetings as “the best lecture and art series in the community.” As the Fellowship gradually separated its Sunday worship into minister-led services and member-led discussions, the intellectual quality of the Forums continued.
Today the Forum Committee continues the long tradition, arranging twice monthly speakers to bring valuable ideas to the congregation. Committee members are Karen Solheim, Helene Brittain, Bob Schneller, and David Jarrett. Together they plan for the program year, developing the Forum schedule from a list of speakers that individuals send to them and through their own contacts. They work via email, using a Google spreadsheet to save time and ideas.
Through the 2016-2017 program year, the committee has brought us speakers on topics ranging from invasive plants and end of life concerns to the environment and racism.
The committee is happy to welcome fresh program ideas and new members to help plan, promote, and introduce Forums.
On April 30, 2017 Vivian Preston Sellers, Lay Minister for the Lifespan Development Cluster, will recognize Karen, Helene, Bob and David for their volunteer effort.
The April recognition is being organized by Diane Bridges of the Volunteer Recognition Team.
