Dear UUFA Members and Friends,
The advance of the calendar every New Year brings an opportunity for each individual to reflect on previous accomplishments and ponder future directions for one’s life. Having spent time in careful deliberation on my own path, I want to let you know that I have decided to give up my role as Director of Religious Education at the end of this program year, with plans to return to my hometown to be closer to my aging family.
When my time of departure arrives in late May, I will have served the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens for nearly eight years, and I want you to know these years have been chock full of wonder, creativity, excitement, joy, and love as I have partnered with you in the important work of supporting the faith development of our young UUs and families.
With Alison’s sabbatical leave beginning in March, I felt it best to announce my decision before she was away. My hope is that the congregation will have plenty of time to consider future directions for the Religious Education program. To that end, Alison has gathered a DRE Transition Team to begin the process of hiring a one-year RE Coordinator. During the upcoming transition year, the congregation will be invited to discuss the nature of a permanent hire, in line with visions for the program’s future.
I will speak briefly to children and youth about my decision at the next Children’s Worship Service on February 19, with plans to give fuller attention to the transition as we approach leave time in May.
I am happy to welcome your questions and ideas in the months ahead, as we prepare for a smooth and healthy transition into the 2017-18 program year.
In Joyful Service,
Director of Religious Education
