The mission of Citizen Advocacy is to foster relationships in Athens that offer protection and advocacy to people with developmental disabilities who are at risk of neglect, abuse and social isolation. CAAC establishes one-to -one personal relationships between these individuals and well connected citizens who live in our community and can identify with the person with the disability. CAAC recruits and trains advocates, matches them with partners, and supports the ongoing relationships.
I am in the process of recruiting education advocates for two young boys who are brothers that live with their parents. We will be asking the advocate to work with the parents to ensure the children receive the best education from the Clarke County School System and to help the parents to understand the special education system and their rights as a parent. The education advocate must be available to attend the Individual Education Plan (IEP) that are held once or twice a year and to take time out of their busy schedule to spend time with the boys. I would like to recruit two advocates.
I am reaching out to you to see if there is a member of the committee who would be interested in becoming an advocate for one of the boys. I know the committee strongly believes in social action and this will be a great opportunity to assist a family in the community to obtain the best resources and education for their children. If you know of someone who would be interested in becoming an education advocate for these wonderful active boys, can you please contact the person and give them my contact information or you can send me their contact information.
