UUA Matters: August 11–Love Resists Conference Call

I invite you to join us on Friday, August 11 for our August Conscience Call: Partnerships for Expanding Sanctuary. Rev. Beth Banks, Senior Minister, Unitarian Universalist Church of Davis, Cal., will share the inspiring, informative, and instructional story of her congregation’s partnership with undocumented students.

Partnerships for Expanding Sanctuary
Friday, August 11 at 1:00 p.m. ET/10:00 a.m. PT

During this call you’ll learn about how to begin, sustain, and grow deeply transformational relationships that support justice, build community, and create sanctuary spaces in our communities.

Last month, Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) re-introduced the DREAM Act to protect and expand the DACA Program (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). Yesterday, Senators Cotton (R-AR) and Perdue (R-GA)  introduced the “Reforming American Immigration for a Strong Economy” (RAISE) Act, which has garnered support from President Trump and white nativists.

In Texas, SB4, the most repressive immigration law in the country, will go into effect onSeptember 1. Plans are underway for a National Day of Action. While Congress debates, real lives hang in the balance and mass deportation continues and expands. It’s up to us to protect our communities and create sanctuary spaces. There’s much we can do. Join the call to get updates about opportunities for collective action and to share what you are doing in your community. Love Resists!

Thanks and see you soon!
